Harvard-Westlake Loses Munoz for Rest of Season

Victor Munoz of Harvard-Westlake High, the lone returning starter from the two-time state champion Wolverines and among the region’s finest point guards, suffered a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

Munoz, who sustained the injury while dribbling in a non-contact accident a week ago against St. Francis, will have surgery in the next few weeks, Coach Greg Hilliard said.

Munoz, a 6-foot, 165-pound senior who in less than two seasons set school career records for assists and steals, has attracted interest from several Division I colleges.

“We’re just hoping that the injury doesn’t scare anyone away. It shouldn’t,” Hilliard said. “With all the knee surgeries out there, it looks like ACL surgery is just about 100% now.”

Although Munoz is out of the lineup for Harvard-Westlake, The Times’ No. 4-ranked team in the region, he isn’t out of action, Hilliard said.

“Now he’s assistant coach Munoz,” Hilliard said. “He’s in charge of our guards.”
