Clerk-Recorder Will Seek Another Term
County Clerk-Recorder Gary Granville announced Friday that he’ll run for another four-year term this year despite earlier indications that he was planning to retire.
Granville said he changed his mind because he believes that the office should be folded into another county department to reduce costs and provide greater efficiency and that a newly elected clerk-recorder might lack the commitment to consolidate the department.
“I had planned to retire, but because this is hanging, I want to finish it,” Granville said.
He first was elected clerk in 1986 and became clerk-recorder when the two offices were combined in 1990.
Laura Cunningham, an aide to state Sen. John R. Lewis, said that she had been planning to run if the seat was open but won’t now that Granville has decided to seek reelection.
