Hahn Honored Posthumously for Helping Build King Hospital

Former Supervisor Kenneth Hahn was honored posthumously Friday with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Award in a ceremony at the county hospital he helped establish in the civil rights leader’s name.
Randall Foster, administrator of Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, told an audience that included Hahn’s widow, Ramona, that Hahn was the only local politician to greet King when he visited Los Angeles for the first time in 1961.
“We gather in solidarity to mark the creative genius of two men who embraced in the struggle to provide equality and justice for all people,” Foster said.
Hahn was remembered for his more than four decades of service, and for his work to make the community’s dream of a medical center a reality in 1972.
