Harvard-Westlake Shows Its Stuff to Chaminade, 74-30
The Harvard-Westlake High girls’ basketball team, ranked No. 6 in The Times’ regional poll, cruised to a 74-30 Mission League victory over host Chaminade on Thursday.
Omelogo Udeze had 16 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocked shots for the Wolverines (15-4, 3-0).
Brooke Porter added 13 points and Corrie Roberts scored 12 for Harvard-Westlake.
In other girls’ games:
Alemany 67, Flintridge Sacred Heart 34--The Indians (13-5, 3-1), ranked No. 7 in the area by The Times, jumped to a 34-10 halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way in a Mission League game at Flintridge Sacred Heart.
The Tologs (1-3) limited Alemany’s second-leading scorer, Kelli Kobayashi, to two points, but other Indians filled the void, including Myasha Bralock (14 points, eight rebounds), Kate Beckler (13 points) and Anna Karas, who added 10 points off the bench.
Notre Dame 47, Louisville 36--Jamie Fortin scored 16 points for the Knights (12-5, 2-2) in a Mission League game.
After trailing, 25-20, at halftime, the Knights took command by outscoring Louisville, 15-0, in the third quarter.
St. Bonaventure 50, Carpinteria 16--Shannon Fink scored 12 points for visiting St. Bonaventure in a Tri-Valley League game.
La Reina 46, Fillmore 36--Susanna Murley scored 15 points and Robin Foster added 10 for host La Reina (5-4, 2-0) in a Tri-Valley League game.
Calle Venegas scored 15 for the Flashes (9-6, 1-1).
Highland 47, Quartz Hill 28--Senior forward Kameelah Purdom had a triple double for visiting Highland (12-4, 2-1) with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 13 steals in a Golden League game.
Buena 61, Rio Mesa 41--Kelly Greathouse scored 22 points and Renae Hofmann had 13 points for the Bulldogs (13-1, 5-0), ranked No. 2 by The Times, in a Channel League game.
Kyelynn Chiong scored 16 points and Karla Kanongata’a had 12 points for the Spartans (8-6, 2-2).
Mary Star 36, St. Genevieve 18--Cherissa Santos scored seven points and junior forward Megan Woodland dblocked six shots for host St. Genevieve (4-9, 0-3) in a Camino Real League game.
The Valiants made only seven of the 59 field goals they attempted.
Barbara Tomic scored 16 points for Mary Star.
Littlerock 62, Lancaster 45--Jameka Taylor and Carrie Miller each scored 14 points for the Lobos (10-7, 3-0) in a Golden League victory at Lancaster.
Jolene Haywood paced Lancaster (4-12, 0-3) with 18 points.
BOYS
Village Christian 73, Frazier Mountain 43--Paul Tait had 18 points and Byron Joseph added 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Crusaders (6-10, 2-0) in an Alpha League game at Village Christian.
Foshay 96, Valley Alternative 26--Dujuan Gutierrez scored 26 points to lead the Owls (3-3, 3-1) to a Magnet Conference victory at Foshay.
Kirk Williams added 14 points for Foshay, which outscored Valley Alternative, 33-2, in the first quarter.
