Teen Suspect’s Mental Status Questioned

A lawyer for the 14-year-old boy accused of murdering three classmates in a shooting rampage at his Paducah high school suggested that the teenager may have been mentally impaired. At Michael Carneal’s arraignment--his first public appearance since the Dec. 1 shootings--defense attorney Charles Granner told a judge he was “not in a position” to enter a plea on Michael’s behalf. Circuit Judge Ron Daniels entered not guilty pleas on charges of murder, attempted murder and burglary.
