Tom Brown; Disc Jockey Specialized in Jazz
Tom Brown, 67, nationally known disc jockey who specialized in jazz. A native of Ohio, he began his radio career on Cleveland station WHK in the 1950s, tagged as “Tom T-Bird Brown.” He then moved to WIP in Philadelphia, where he helped make the station No. 1 in the area with his show “The Thomas Brown Affair.” He later worked as program manager at WCAU in Philadelphia and then moved west to KNBR in San Francisco. Because of his knowledge of jazz and jazz artists, Brown was sought out as master of ceremonies for concerts by such singers as Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Della Reese and Frank Sinatra. He was a former president of the Philadelphia-area chapter of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. On Saturday in Los Angeles after a short illness.
