1st Restaurant Approved for Renovated Pier
After months of negotiations, Kincaid’s Fish, Chop and Steakhouse will become the first restaurant to be constructed on the renovated north end of the pier. The eatery got approval this week from the California Coastal Commission to begin construction of a 10,000-square-foot restaurant next month.
Kincaid’s, a division of Seattle-based Restaurants Unlimited Inc., is scheduled to open in August, Project Manager Ed Wilson said Thursday.
Ten years ago, part of the Redondo Beach Pier was destroyed by a fire and two winter storms. It was rebuilt by 1995, but 15 of the pier’s nearly 40 restaurants and shops were lost and never replaced.
City officials said they are talking to other restaurants about building on the pier but would not identify them.
