Improved Sunkist Street Overpass Reopens Sunday After 11 Months
After an 11-month closure, motorists and area schoolchildren will be able to use the newly reconstructed Sunkist Street freeway overpass beginning Sunday.
The overpass was lengthened and widened as part of the Riverside and Orange freeways interchange. A structure now under construction will connect the car-pool lanes of the two freeways.
The Sunkist bridge improvements include sidewalks and lighting.
As the Sunkist bridge opens, the nearby Miraloma Avenue overpass will close Monday for reconstruction. Work on that bridge will take about a year.
Improvements began last January to add car-pool lanes in each direction on the Riverside Freeway on an 11-mile stretch between the interchange and the Los Angeles County line. The $180-million project, which runs through Anaheim, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Palma and Placentia, is scheduled to be completed in 2000.
