‘Frontline’ Tops DuPont Honors

NEW YORK — The PBS documentary series “Frontline” won the top honor Wednesday when Columbia University announced its annual duPont-Columbia Awards for excellence in broadcast journalism.
Eleven other awards were presented to local, radio, network or cable programs--including two public stations in Los Angeles: KCET-TV Channel 28 (for its series on World War I, “The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century”) and KUSC-FM (91.5) (for the weekday business series “Marketplace”).
“Without cynicism or sensation, ‘Frontline’ covers many of the issues that try our patience and test our way of life,” Columbia University President George Rupp said in presenting the prize to David Fanning, the series’ executive producer. The program is produced by WGBH-TV in Boston.
The ceremony, which was held at Columbia University in New York, was to be broadcast nationwide on PBS tonight (at 10 on KCET).
