Brethren Christian 40, Whittier Christian 35--Cindy Oparah’s 20 points and 16 rebounds led Brethren Christian (9-6, 1-0).
Orange Lutheran 30, Ontario Christian 28 (OT)--Lindsay Wetzler made two free throws with 11 seconds left for Orange Lutheran (4-1, 1-0).
In the Century League:
Villa Park 45, Canyon 44--Missy Bynon (17 points, 11 assists) scored on a layup with four seconds remaining for Villa Park (9-4, 1-0). Canyon (15-2, 0-1), which made three of 13 free-throws, led with 11 seconds left on Paulette Seaman’s putback.
El Modena 53, Santa Ana Valley 23--Valerie Matweeff had 18 points and 14 rebounds for El Modena (8-4, 1-0).
Foothill 55, Orange 40--Rebekah Cole scored 16 points and Lauren Schwendimann added 12 for Foothill (7-10, 1-0).
In the Empire League:
No. 7 El Dorado 43, Loara 28--Stephanie Patten had 18 points and 12 rebounds for El Dorado (12-3, 1-0). Alexis Graves scored 12 points for the Golden Hawks. Carrie Banister had nine points for Loara (10-6, 0-1).
Century 56, Kennedy 39--Aprile Powell (20 points, 14 rebounds) led Century (10-5, 1-0).
Cypress 47, Katella 37--Playing without leading scorer Lyndsay Weaver (ankle injury), Cypress (8-7, 1-0) rallied from a 24-20 halftime deficit. Lisa Choi led Cypress with 12 points and Evalani Tagaloa had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Angulo led all scorers with 13 points for Katella (8-8, 0-1).
In the Golden West League:
Rosary 60, Santa Ana 32--Romina Bollini scored 24 points for Rosary (10-7, 1-1).
Tustin 50, Saddleback 27--Brooke Brown (11 points, 20 rebounds) led Tustin (12-3, 2-0) to its fifth victory in a row. Susana Jara added 20 points.
Westminster 49, Ocean View 43--Tara Moore scored 19 points and Janet Glasby had 16, including 11 in the third quarter, when Westminster (12-4, 2-0) outscored Ocean View, 17-9.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Aliso Niguel 55, Costa Mesa 45--In the battle of league favorites, Kristin Moorhouse scored 20 for Aliso Niguel (7-8, 1-0), which outscored Costa Mesa, 12-2, in the final three minutes. Costa Mesa is 4-11, 0-1.
University 63, Laguna Beach 19--Fala Suiaunoa scored 19 points, including four three-pointers, for University (6-10, 1-0), which got 13 points and 13 rebounds from Shiang-Eu Bai.
Laguna Hills 41, Estancia 39--Shannon Owens scored 19 points, and Anne Bubriski 14 as defending Division II state champion Laguna Hills (3-7, 1-0) began defense of its league title. Francia Diaz led Estancia (4-12, 0-1) with 12 points.
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 49, Corona del Mar 27--Nicole Roberts scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Woodbridge (9-7, 1-0). .
Irvine 38, Santa Margarita 34--Natalie Kamada (13 points) made four three-pointers in the second half for Irvine (9-5, 1-0).
In South Coast League:
No. 2 San Clemente 73, Dana Hills 31--Andrea Jacobs had a season-high 15 points and Kelly Kruger had seven steals and six assists for San Clemente (15-3, 1-0).
In the Sunset League:
No. 6 Marina 70, Fountain Valley 44--Marina (14-3, 1-0) was led by Nikki Lee with 16 points, Chanda McLeod with 14 and Natalie Nakase with 11. Kelly Boeke of Fountain Valley (4-12, 0-1) led all scorers with 21.
No. 3 Esperanza 68, Los Alamitos 51--Leah Combs had 30 points (13 of 24 shooting), eight rebounds and five steals for Esperanza (9-6, 0-1), which led, 28-23, at the half. Kristin Geoffroy led Los Alamitos (10-7, 0-1) with 23 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks.
