Probe, Recovery Begin After Swap Meet Fire
- Share via
As shop owners sifted through the ashes of their burned-out ventures at the Reseda Indoor Swap Meet in the 18400 block of Sherman Way, arson detectives continued to investigate the cause of the fire Thursday.
Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said the investigation had been inconclusive so far.
About a dozen businesses were destroyed in the fire that caused an estimated $350,000 in damage.
Most of the businesses were owned by immigrants who subleased small shops in the building.
Several tenants said they had detected a burning smell coming from the ceilings for several days before the fire.
None of the tenants had insurance coverage.
