About 100 local youths auditioned at the Westside School of Ballet on Monday in the hope of gaining admission to the School of American Ballet’s prestigious summer program.
Only 200 of the 2,000 children and teenagers will be chosen in the ballet’s 22-city tour, said spokeswoman Karen Hostettler.
Admission to the program is by audition only and one-third of the participants have some form of scholarship.
Founded in 1934, the school’s purpose is to train dancers for careers in classical ballet. Alumni include Suzanne Farrell, Patricia McBride and Fernando Bujones.
