Travel Writer Honored for Oxnard Guide

Travel writer Bob Carter received a first place in an annual writing competition sponsored by the North American Travel Journalists Assn. Carter was honored in the category of Best Brochure for his 34-page Oxnard Destination Guide, which contains information on the city’s attractions and visitor facilities.
Ventura Theatrical Troupe Receives Grant
The Ventura-based Mental Health Players received a $4,000 grant from the Fund for Santa Barbara. The theatrical troupe stages performances to educate people about mental illness and to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. The money will be used to expand the group’s programming into the Santa Barbara area.
