Another Side to Bernd Departure
Your interview with departing Newport-Mesa Unified School District Supt. Mac Bernd (Dec. 27) has to be one of the most incomplete and slanted pieces of journalism ever to grace the pages of the Orange County Metro section.
Indeed, it appears that you didn’t take the time to speak to disappointed teachers, board members and community advisory committee members or review the ample published data on hand, which points to Bernd’s shortcomings.
[Bernd] reneged on his promises of shared decision-making, business-education partnerships, community forums and much-needed input from parents and district advisory committees.
For this “educrat” to sit and tell you about his deep commitment to the community is the ultimate in hypocrisy. He is correct, however, in stating that many in the community will never be able to completely trust the system again.
The Times is not serving its readers well by furthering the spread of the Bernd smoke screen and should get back to balanced reporting.
