Upgrading Downtown to Cost $3.5 Million

A multimillion dollar upgrade for Main Street, including improvements to parking lots and beach areas, will begin in 1998.
Mayor Marilyn Bruce Hastings said the city has earmarked $850,000 for the first phase of the $3.5 million project.
“We really want to embark on the specific plan for Main Street,” Hastings said. “The pier area is probably the most expensive to make attractive and draw people to it.”
City officials also expect to begin the public hearing process for the proposed Bixby Ranch project. This project, which includes residential and commercial development on land near Seal Beach Boulevard and Lampson Avenue, is expected to go before the Planning Commission early this year.
