El Toro Plans Lead Residents’ Concerns

Judging from her phone calls and letters, Mayor Susan Withrow says, the reuse plan for the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station is the issue most Mission Viejo residents are concerned about.
Of particular interest is a potential runway alternative that would align commercial flight paths along Interstate 5, Withrow said.
“There is mention by the county of changing the runway alignment,” she said. “From a noise impact, that will affect Mission Viejo far more” than the current proposal, which would send jetliners over the northeast tip of the city.
County officials deny any plans to change the runway configuration.
