LITTLEROCK — A helicopter crash in a remote area south of Palmdale and the California Aqueduct left one man dead Thursday and left authorities searching for the cause.
Two motorists who saw the privately-owned chopper fall from the sky at 1:20 p.m. near Mount Emma Road and 72nd Street East notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in Lancaster on cellular phones.
County firefighters found the wreckage and a body at the bottom of a ravine.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a two-seat Robinson-22 helicopter. She declined to name the owner of the aircraft and said the cause of the accident was not known.
Coroner’s officials were not immediately able to identify the body.
National Transportation Safety Board officials will begin their investigation of the accident today.
