Red Cross Offering Safety Instruction

The Ventura County Red Cross is offering separate safety training courses in March for sports enthusiasts and child-care providers.

The sports-related course will focus on the prevention of muscle, bone and joint injuries and will include basic CPR training, said Red Cross spokeswoman Carol Becker. The cost is $45.

The two-day course will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday and March 9 at the Ventura Red Cross chapter at 2355 Portola Road. An additional class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 18 at the Simi Valley Red Cross chapter at 1919 Williams St., No. 200.

Child Care Provider, a state-approved course for caregivers, will be offered twice at the Ventura Red Cross office and once at the Simi Valley site. The cost is $65.

The course, which covers infant and child CPR skills and pediatric first aid, will be held in Ventura for four consecutive Wednesdays--March 4, 11, 18 and 25--from 6 to 10 p.m. each day. A second course in Ventura will be offered Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.

The Simi Valley course will be held on consecutive Tuesdays, March 24 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
