Eggleston Is CCAA Player of Year

Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball player Jessica Eggleston, a Cypress High graduate, has been named player of the year in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.
Eggleston, a three-time first-team all-CCAA pick, averaged 20.6 points and nine rebounds for Pomona, which won the conference’s regular-season title.

The Division II girls’ soccer quarterfinal game between Mater Dei and Ventura Buena has been postponed from today until 3 p.m. Friday.
Buena, which played its second-round game Wednesday instead of Tuesday because of poor field conditions, got permission from the Southern Section to postpone the quarterfinal game at Mater Dei, according to Monarch assistant coach Trevor Ikes.

The Zodiac will host the Galaxy in an exhibition soccer game March 14 at Santa Ana Stadium. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
The teams tied, 1-1, in an exhibition last year. Saturday, the Zodiac will scrimmage against teams from UC Irvine and San Diego at UC Irvine, where the Zodiac will play most of its home games in the upcoming season.

Two Mater Dei boys’ soccer players have accepted Division I scholarship offers, Mater Dei Coach Martin Stringer announced. Goalkeeper Jeff McKeever will play at Tulsa and midfielder-forward Bret Corbin will play at Southern Methodist.

Stephanie Trexler, a senior pitcher at Mater Dei, has orally committed to attend Towson (Md.) State to play softball on a full scholarship, Mater Dei Coach Doug Myers said. Trexler was injured last season and did not pitch for the Monarchs.
