Shop Owners Alerted to Bogus $10 Bills

Police warned business owners Sunday to keep an eye out for counterfeit money after several bogus $10 bills were passed at two local stores.
The bills, which have two-toned backs and are printed on paper that is smaller and darker than the real thing, turned up Saturday afternoon at Ventura Harley-Davidson & Buell and a Rite Aid drugstore, said Ventura Police Lt. Brad Talbot.
“Usually it’s 20s that we see,” Talbot said. “We haven’t seen counterfeit 10s in a long time.”
Investigators are unsure who passed the phony money.
What they do know is the bogus bills were used to purchase merchandise at about 12:45 p.m. at the motorcycle shop and at about 2:15 p.m. at the drug store, Talbot said.
