Scott Taylor, who led the Costa Mesa High boys’ water polo team to the Southern Section Division II championship game last season, has resigned to become an assistant coach at Grossmont College and pursue his teaching credential at National University.
Taylor, an All-Southern Section goalkeeper at Costa Mesa, also coached the school’s girls’ team.
“It’s a major loss for us, but it was a good opportunity for Scott and time for him to move on,” Costa Mesa Athletic Director Jerry Howell said.

Robert Wiebort, who was named Corona del Mar’s softball coach last month, said he has resigned his position, blaming a lack of participation for his decision.
“Only six or seven girls came out for tryouts and only about five for each practice,” said Wiebort, who runs a softball training center in Mission Viejo and has coached travel teams.
Wiebort added he hopes to get a head or assistant varsity coaching position at another high school for the next season.

Mission Viejo hired co-coaches for its softball team, Athletic Director Carol Hankins said.
Patty Kleinschmidt and Denise Kuhns will share coaching duties. Both played at Saddleback College. Kleinschmidt graduated from El Toro. Kuhns graduated from Palm Springs High but grew up in Orange County.
