Antelope Valley Gets Share of Title

John Burrell had 27 points and five of his teammates scored in double figures to help Antelope Valley College defeat visiting Desert, 94-92, in a Foothill Conference North Division men’s basketball game Wednesday night.
The victory by Antelope Valley (20-9, 6-1 in conference) gave the Marauders at least a share of their fourth consecutive division title with one game left in the regular season. It also gave them their ninth consecutive 20-win season.
In other men’s basketball games:
Cuesta 69, Moorpark 63--Casmeron Henderson’s 22-point performance was not enough to give host Moorpark (13-12, 5-3) a share of the Western State Conference North Division title.
The Raiders have not won a conference championship since 1983, when they were a member of the Mountain Valley Conference.
The Cougars (23-9, 6-1) clinched the WSC North crown with the victory.
Glendale 70, Valley 68--Tony Hoggatts hit two free throws with 5.4 seconds remaining to give Glendale a 69-68 lead and the Vaqueros (16-12, 6-3) held on to complete a two-game sweep of Valley (22-8, 6-3) in a Western State Conference game at Glendale.
Canyons 78, West Los Angeles 52--Woodley Polynice had 18 points and Bryan Finley 17 for Canyons (10-18, 2-7) in a Western State Conference North Division game at Canyons.
Cal Lutheran 68, Occidental 62--Mike Salser made a pair of free throws with 20 seconds remaining to give Cal Lutheran (12-10, 8-3) a four-point lead in a SCIAC home game.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Moorpark 61, Cuesta 48--Christina Mosesso had 19 points and Janim Halsey scored 17 for host Moorpark (20-9, 7-2) in a Western State Conference North Division game.
The victory broke a tie for second place between the Raiders and the Cougars (22-9, 6-3).
Canyons 106, West L.A. 42--Laura Tweedy scored 23 points and Wendy Gussner added 22 points and six assists for the Western State Conference South champion Canyons (25-7, 11-0) in a home conference game.
Ventura 92, Oxnard 35--Amirah Leonard had 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals, and Lynda Amari added eight assists, seven steals, five blocked shots and five rebounds for two-time defending state champion Ventura (31-1, 9-0), which clinched its eighth consecutive WSC North Division title at Ventura.
Pierce 57, Cal Lutheran JV 47--Cheryl Flores had a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for host Pierce (8-20) in a nonconference game.
