Laguna Coast Wilderness Access Will Be Reviewed

A plan to make Laguna Coast Wilderness Park more accessible to hikers, cyclists and others will be reviewed tonight by the Coastal Greenbelt Authority, which oversees the park’s management.
The 3,000 acres of wilderness off Laguna Canyon Road is open to the public only on an intermittent basis and by a guided tour, said Mary Fegraus, the executive director of the Laguna Canyon Foundation, which supports the park with fund-raising and public relations efforts.
But county parks officials and local environmentalists have long dreamed of opening up the park on a full-time basis.
The plan, which gives details on hiking trails, bike paths and parking lots, among other issues, is expected to gain county approval within five months, Fegraus said.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Irvine Civic Center, at Harvard Avenue and Alton Parkway. Information: (714) 834-6662.
