Sanchez to Appeal Denial of HUD Grants for County
- Share via
Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) will meet today with federal officials to appeal a December rejection of $15.1 million in grants to help veterans, the disabled and victims of domestic violence.
Sanchez will meet in Garden Grove with Saul Ramirez, assistant secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency gave the county a low rating last year, below the cutoff point for grant money. About two dozen counties statewide and four cities received a total of $120.8 million in funding.
Sanchez and county housing officials last month filed a formal request for reconsideration of the denial of the grant, which is given yearly to programs that benefit low-income and other disadvantaged groups. The money would have gone to about 21 projects across Orange County.
