Blaze Damages San Francisco City Hall’s Rotunda

SAN FRANCISCO — A stubborn fire at City Hall sent flames and smoke billowing from the top of the domed rotunda Friday afternoon.
No injuries were reported and there was no word on a cause. Fire officials said the blaze at the unoccupied building was probably construction-related. The fire broke out before 4:10 p.m., quickly growing to a four-alarm blaze. Twenty-one engines and trucks crowded the Civic Center as firefighters on scaffolding dragged hoses to the dome, about 220 feet high. Crews were fighting blind because the blaze was hidden between the dome’s inside and outside walls, officials said.
