* UTAH STATE (18-5, 9-1 Big West) at UC IRVINE (7-13, 4-6), 7, KUCI-FM (88.1)--Irvine needs to do something extraordinary to break loose of the five-team pack that lurks below Pacific in the conference’s Western Division. Beating Utah State would certainly qualify. Marcus Saxon (17-point average) is probably the conference’s second best player.
