ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST — The body of a 53-year-old man was retrieved from Little Rock Reservoir on Wednesday afternoon about 1 1/2 hours after a bystander spotted a capsized canoe in the water, authorities said.
Firefighters were alerted to the canoe about 2:35 p.m. Rescuers searched the mountain area south of Palmdale by air and ground before divers found Charles Babbitt of Little Tujunga Canyon under 30 feet of water about 3:50 p.m., authorities said.
He was not breathing and had no pulse when divers from the Los Angeles County Fire Department pulled him from the water, said Henry Rodriguez, a county fire inspector.
Authorities attempted to resuscitate Babbitt and rushed him to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
