Former Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates will go back to fighting crime this week--not on Southland streets, but inside a Burbank recording studio.

Gates, who is credited with developing SWAT tactics, is the creative consultant for the upcoming computer game “Daryl F. Gates’ Police Quest: SWAT 2.” On Thursday, he will record selected tips and hints to be incorporated into the police tactical simulation game. Sierra On-Line, an Oakhurst, Calif.-based game developer, will release SWAT 2 in mid-April.
