Regarding the article on cheap ways to get around Santa Barbara by staying at a Motel 6 (“A Motel to Wait for,” Weekend Escape, Jan. 11): Why would you expect people to get excited about staying at a Motel 6--except to get angry to see how expensive it has gotten?
My husband and I spent a recent weekend in Santa Barbara at a lovely B&B;, the Harbor House Inn, that has a sitting room, a kitchen and a very lovely feather bed. We spent $300 only because we decided to spend Saturday night at the Piranha restaurant and ate all that we wanted.
The main point is that if you are going to run an article about a weekend escape in Santa Barbara in the winter, you don’t have to have people stay at a Motel 6. We spent $88 (plus tax) for room and breakfast. We could have just paid $78 for a little smaller room.
