400 Celebrate Reagan Birthday at Library

Nancy Reagan showed up. So did former Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick. And more than 400 other friends, acquaintances and admirers.
“Even El Nino wanted to come,” joked Larry Bumgardner, executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, which threw an 87th birthday bash for Reagan during Friday’s storm.
At the presidential library, the celebration centered on Kirkpatrick’s speech honoring Reagan, who was in Century City at a birthday lunch with his staff.
“Napoleon once said a leader is a dealer in hope,” Kirkpatrick said in her speech. “In the campaign of 1980, Ronald Reagan offered the people hope. He had a vision and a plan.”
“He promised to restore America’s morale, to make us feel better,” she said.
