Sylmar Adds Notre Dame to Already Tough Schedule

Sylmar High and Notre Dame have agreed to open the football season against each other Sept. 11 in Sherman Oaks.
Sylmar has three difficult opponents for its nonconference games, as the Spartans will also play Antelope Valley and Hart.
“I’ve got to have my head examined,” Sylmar Coach Jeff Engilman said. “We have a good football team, but it’s going to be pretty bruising.”
Notre Dame and Sylmar agreed on a two-year contract, Engilman said.
“I don’t know anybody who’s got that [tough] of a preseason,” Engilman said. “I might retire before we play.”
