Red Cross Holds Winter Blood Drive at UCLA

The American Red Cross is holding its weeklong winter blood drive at UCLA this week.
“College campuses are one of our biggest producers [of blood],” said donor recruitment manager Don Burghardt.
Each campus organization that signs up more than 10 of its members for the drive receives $5 per person from the nonprofit group, Burghardt said.
The blood supply for Los Angeles and Orange counties is 20% below the 10,000 pints the Red Cross strives to maintain, forcing the agency to import blood from other counties to keep up with the demand, he added.
An average of 42 students a day have given blood this week to the Red Cross.
