Vote Delayed on Airport Authority
The City Council has again postponed a vote on joining the Orange County Regional Airport Authority, a consortium of cities that favor building a commercial airport at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
Council members said they put off the vote for a second time since the beginning of this year because the authority’s executive director, Peggy Ducey, could not attend the meeting Tuesday.
Council members are still divided over the airport issue. Mayor Gene Wisner and Councilwoman Barbara Kiley oppose the county’s plan. Councilmen John M. Gullixson and Henry W. Wedaa favor it. Councilman Mark Schwing has not taken a position.
The council again will consider joining the authority Feb. 17.
