Las Palmas Elementary School was named one of five schools in California to receive the 1998 Seal of Excellence Award for its bilingual program.
The program, created four years ago, teaches Spanish- speaking students English, and English-speaking students Spanish, said Dr. Mary Lou Hamaker, director of English Language Development and Title VII programs at the Capistrano Unified School District.
The school program was chosen by the board of directors for the California Assn. of Bilingual Education.
School officials will attend an awards ceremony Friday at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
