Members and guests of the Guilds of Casa Teresa in Orange attended a benefit luncheon Sunday that raised funds for the nonprofit facility’s residential program for unmarried pregnant women.
About 200 women are helped annually by Casa Teresa, which, besides housing, provides career and education counseling.
“Ours is a residential program for girls who have decided to either parent their babies or place them up for adoption,” said Maggie Williamson, program coordinator.
Keynote speaker at the event--held at the Center Club in Costa Mesa--was Star Parker, founder of the Coalition for Urban Renewal in Los Angeles. Parker, a former welfare mom, spoke about the importance of women staying on a “healthy path” so that they may lead meaningful, effective lives.
Event chairwomen were Yvonne Junor, Carol Thomson, Mary Burnell, Kim Frazier, Jean O’Toole and Mary Hofflander. Information on Casa Teresa: (714) 538-4860.
