‘BLUE’ PERIOD

Re Brian Lowry’s profile of “NYPD Blue” co-creator and executive producer David Milch (“Revelations in Blue,” Jan. 25):
As a former fan of “NYPD Blue,” I now find the show’s writing increasingly cartoonish and most offensive in its racism, homophobia and nodding acceptance of police brutality. Just once I’d like to see a gay black psychiatrist and intellectual with the slight size, build and martial-arts expertise of a Bruce Lee step outside the station house and wipe the pavement with that hump Sipowicz and his smirky, “good guy” accomplice, Bobby Simone.

I am totally amazed by the obvious snubbing of CBS’ “Michael Hayes,” starring that fine actor David Caruso. It occurs to me that the snubbing is because Caruso dared to leave the critically acclaimed “NYPD Blue” for the big screen and he is being “punished.” I say get over it! This is a fine drama and Caruso is absolutely fantastic in it.
