Orange Lutheran No Match for North Florida Christian

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Orange Lutheran Coach Jim Kunau brought his team across the country to evaluate it against a talented Florida program, one that won a State 2-A Division title in 1996.

After Lutheran’s offense was limited to 145 total yards, Kunau realized his team needs some adjustments.

The Lancers fell to North Florida Christian, 42-16, Friday and their offense failed to score a touchdown until the fourth quarter.

Orange Lutheran’s Dee Meza returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown three minutes into the game to make it, 14-6, but that was as close as the Lancers (0-1) got.

“They completely dominated the line of scrimmage,” Kunau said. “We need to get some healthy guys on the offensive line. And we need to get a lot of practice in.”

Lutheran senior quarterback Jeff Renevier tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tim Fleming two minutes into the final quarter and they hooked up again for a two-point conversion to make it 42-14.

Renevier completed four of 10 passes for 31 yards after taking over at quarterback in the third quarter for Jason Whieldon, who suffered a first-half injury.

Bill Pratt returned two interceptions for touchdowns and Tony Milton had touchdown runs of 10, 59 and 79 yards for North Florida Christian.

“When you play a great team and you make all the mistakes we made in the first eight minutes, you’re in trouble.” Kunau said.
