Separate Outages Affect Nearly 5,000
Nearly 5,000 Southern California Edison customers in Ventura County were without power for a short time Friday when separate outages affected two jails in the county and many residences in the community of Oak View.
Power to 2,666 customers was interrupted for 30 seconds at 4:23 p.m. in an area between Baldwin and East Old Creek roads and Creek and Riverside roads in Oak View, according to Clara Potes-Fellow, an Edison spokeswoman.
A 20-second interruption occurred at 4:42 p.m. and affected 2,317 customers in an area south of Ojai, she added. A generator kicked on at the county’s Honor Farm Branch Jail at 370 W. Baldwin Road and ran for several minutes until both power outages were over, a jail sergeant said.
“We don’t know the cause yet, and we are still trying to identify that,†Potes-Fellow said late Friday.
Just north of Ventura, power lines went down about noon on Telegraph Road, causing the Todd Road Jail Facility to lose power for about 30 minutes, Sheriff’s Capt. Rod Thompson said. The jail’s backup generator activated immediately and the 530 inmates were placed on lock-down status.
The failure was believed to have been caused by a traffic accident. Potes-Fellow said there had been no reports to Edison about the Todd Road jail outage and no calls from customers.
