Proposal Would Bar Left Turns on Pine
Alarmed by the number of traffic collisions at Westminster Boulevard and Pine Street, city traffic commissioners will ask the City Council tonight to restrict left turns at the intersection.
Under the proposal, left turns onto and off Pine Street at the intersection would be barred.
There have been 15 accidents at the intersection in the last 2 1/2 years, most involving motorists who were broadsided while turning left onto Pine Street, according to city officials.
Other accidents involved motorists attempting left turns from Pine Street onto Westminster Boulevard.
Public Works Director Brad Fowler said adjustments are needed when an intersection exceeds five accidents in a year: “We’ve gone over the standard so we need to fix it.â€
If the council agrees, signs could be posted as early as next month.
So far, one business owner opposes the proposal, saying the restriction would hurt his business.
