City Considering IDs for Sex Club Workers
Managers and performers of local sex-oriented clubs and shops may be required to obtain city-issued photo identification cards under a proposal to better regulate adult businesses.
The identification cards would make it easier for police and code enforcement officers to discover if an entertainer is a minor, or for police to identify an on-duty manager, officials said. On-duty managers also would be required to wear an identification badge.
Other proposals:
* Prohibit direct tipping to female entertainers and the soliciting of tips by the entertainers;
* Clarify adult business licensing procedures;
* Apply universal public hearing procedure if a renewal of a sex-oriented business permit is denied.
The proposed modifications are the result of recent meetings with police, code enforcement and business license officials. The council’s sex-oriented business task force also contributed.
In Anaheim, there are five topless or nude businesses.
City Atty. Jack L. White said the amendments would help to reduce secondary problems from adult businesses, including crime and devaluation of nearby properties.
The council is expected to adopt the amendments Sept. 1. If approved, the changes will be effective Oct. 1. Entertainers and managers at existing adult businesses will have 60 days to get the identification cards.
