The St. Louis Cardinals released veteran catcher Tom Pagnozzi, a member of their 1987 World Series team.

Pagnozzi, 36, was waived to make room on the roster for right-handed pitcher Juan Acevedo, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list after sitting out nearly a month because of an elbow injury.
