Bids, Repairs to Begin on Creek Channels
Los Angeles County will begin accepting bids for repairs, estimated to cost between $655,000 and $800,000, to three San Fernando Valley creek channels damaged during the January 1994 Northridge earthquake, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky announced.
The county will open bidding on repairs to Browns Creek in Winnetka on Tuesday, while bids to repair Calabasas Creek in Woodland Hills and Bull Creek at Van Nuys Airport will be accepted beginning Sept. 8. All three projects will involve repairs to the reinforced concrete channel walls, Yaroslavsky said.
Repairs to the portion of Browns Creek between Sherman Way and Cantlay Street, and Lurline and Cozycroft avenues, are expected to take 30 working days during September and October. The estimated cost of the project is between $115,000 and $140,000.
Work on Calabasas Creek at Fallbrook Avenue near Hatteras Street has an estimated cost between $470,000 and $570,000. The job is expected to take 40 working days during October and December. Bull Creek repairs have an estimated cost between $70,000 and $90,000 and are expected to last for 30 working days in October and November.
All three projects have sufficient funding through the Flood Control District, but, Yaroslavsky said, the county will seek partial reimbursement from federal and state disaster assistance programs.
