Council Delays Vote on No-Parking Zones

Saying more discussion is needed, council members Tuesday postponed action on a controversial proposal to create no-parking zones within a neighborhood near Disneyland.
The City Council will consider the proposal Sept. 1, after city staff members hold more meetings in the Jeffrey-Lynne neighborhood.
Some tenants and their landlords have opposed the proposal, fearing a parking crunch. Supporters contend the one-year pilot program could help control crime and improve the looks of the 714-unit apartment neighborhood.
A parking ban would force tenants to use their garages for parking, rather than for extra living space, storage or for operating illegal businesses, city code enforcement officials said.
Between 20% and 25% of the garages are not being used for parking, a city survey showed. About 753 parking spaces are available in garages and carports, officials said.
Anaheim police officials said similar no-parking programs in two other apartment neighborhoods reduced crime and calls for service.
