Gun Purchases

I am surprised at the misinformed letter on July 31. Allan Rabinowitz stated you can plunk down your credit card and in three minutes walk out with a handgun, rifle or shotgun. Not in California!

Fact: To purchase a handgun you must take a course, called the Basic Firearms Safety Course, pass a written state test and receive a BFSC certificate. Then you must wait 11 working days before you may pick up your gun. Rifles or shotguns do not require a certificate, but still have the same 11-day wait. This information may be verified at any sporting goods store.
