Temperatures Soar Past 100 Across State

Temperatures shot past 100 degrees across much of north and central Texas, but forecasters say the renewed heat wave should be short-lived. After 29 straight days of triple-digit heat in July and early August, the region enjoyed a brief respite last week, with rain and highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. The heat wave was a factor in at least 124 deaths statewide and caused an estimated $1.5 billion in crop losses. Texas cities continued their water conservation crusade.
