A Mexican judge has issued arrest warrants for seven San Diego gang members in connection with the attempted assassination of a Tijuana publisher whose magazine has written extensively on the drug trade.

Mexican Army Maj. Felipe Perez Cruz, of the Federal Judicial Police, confirmed that a judge issued warrants for members of the Logan 30s gang for alleged involvement in the attempted killing of Jesus Blancornelas, publisher of the Tijuana newsweekly Zeta, the San Diego Union Tribune reported Friday.

Perez said virtually all the suspects are believed to be in the United States.

Blancornelas, whose paper has aggressively reported on drug trafficking in the Baja California region, was ambushed Nov. 27 as he was being driven to work in Tijuana.
