Farmers Insurance Plans New Facility

Farmers Insurance has applied for a permit from the city to build a large training facility next to its regional office on Galena Avenue and Cochran Street.
Farmers Insurance wants to build a 25,000-square-foot center behind the Galena Avenue Post Office, east of the Target shopping center, to train insurance adjusters from across the western U.S.
“In the 15 years since Farmers has been in this location, we’ve been pleased with Simi Valley and look forward to working with city officials to continue to enhance the business climate,” said Terry Smith, the company’s regional manager.
The new facility, plans for which will come before the Planning Commission Sept. 9, would contain a number of classrooms and a spacious garage area.
Because adjusters generally spend about one week in training at the facility, city officials hope to see an increase in business at local restaurants and hotels.
Mayor Greg Stratton, who has made boosting business and sales tax revenues a priority, said he was happy to learn that the company had chosen Simi Valley.
“Farmers Insurance has been a good corporate citizen, and their facility plans . . . indicate their confidence in the area,” he said in a written statement. “The city is excited about their expansion plans, and we look forward to working with Farmers on their new facility.”
