An armed man with his face wrapped in a white bandanna robbed Topper’s Pizza Palace in the Mission Shopping Center on Tuesday, police said.

The robber came in the front door of the restaurant at 2100 S. Saviers Road about 3 p.m., pointed a semiautomatic pistol at two clerks behind the counter and demanded cash, Oxnard Police Officer Mike Marostica said.

A male and female clerk who were sharing a register handed over an unknown amount of money before the robber fled out a back door, Marostica said. At the time, there were three or four customers dining in the pizza restaurant.

A sheriff’s helicopter that had been in the area spotted someone running from the scene and tracked that person to a condominium complex at San Marino and Iris streets behind the restaurant.

A team of more than 10 officers surrounded the complex and searched three homes. The search for the suspect continued until it was called off about 6 p.m., Marostica said. The investigation continues.
