Pedestrian, 16, Killed; Teen Driver Held
A Fullerton teenager was killed as she walked across Yorba Linda Boulevard and was hit by a driver who later was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene without stopping, police said.
Crystal Rose Giczy, 16, died Saturday at UCI Medical Center in Orange shortly after the 9:30 p.m. collision, Fullerton Police Sgt. Don Pearce said.
Giczy and two teenage boys had been crossing “mid-block” on the 3200 block of East Yorba Linda Boulevard when the collision occurred, police said.
Brett Lisowski, 19, was driving west when he saw the trio and swerved, avoiding the boys but hitting Giczy, Pearce said.
Lisowski continued driving his pickup away from the scene but was followed by another driver who had witnessed the accident, officials said. That driver called police from a cellular telephone, and officers arrested Lisowski about half a mile away, Pearce said.
“It does not appear that alcohol or excessive speed was involved in the collision,” he said.
Lisowski remained in jail Sunday on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. His bail was set at $10,000.
