Suspect Arrested in House Break-In

A man has been arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a Thousand Oaks house, and deputies are investigating whether he is also responsible for a string of past break-ins in eastern Ventura County, authorities said.
Dennis Wayne Spangler, 52, remained jailed Saturday in lieu of $250,000 bail. He was being held on one count of burglary, and deputies said they would release details of other break-ins and charges Tuesday.
Deputy Harold Hanley said witnesses and crime scene evidence have linked Spangler, a Van Nuys resident, to several residential burglaries in Thousand Oaks and Moorpark.
The unsolved crimes prompted authorities to create a detective task force that has been investigating Spangler for several months, Hanley said.
Spangler was arrested about noon Friday after a burglary in the 1000 block of Elfstone Court. Deputies were in the neighborhood waiting for him after an investigation of past break-ins led to the next victim, Hanley said.
